Here are some key features you should look before you buy any hosting plan.
1. Bandwidth & Traffic.
While looking for web hosting we often came across terms bandwidth and traffic. What is Bandwidth ? Bandwidth is the amount of data which our host will allowed us and our visitors to upload or download in a month.
Traffic: It means that with how much speed the data will flow from server to user and vice versa. This data flow is controlled by RAM and Processors installed on server side. Controlling the flow of data makes efficient use of bandwidth and allow website to be available to there visitors all time. Assume it as a tunnel through which the cars can drive , the wider the tunnel the more the cars can drive through on single time.
2. Storage Space.
All hosting plans provides a storage space in which you can save you web pages and scripts. Some provides with a limited storage space while some services provides unlimited storage space with a reasonable charges. But before choosing a plan consider your website. e.g If your website have lots of videos and Images to be featured than Unlimited Storage is to be Selected or if you are a newbie than atleast select a plan with 50GB of storage space.
3. FTP Access.
After web pages are created, These pages are to be uploaded on Hosting server using FTP. File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a protocol that enables you to transfer files between your Hosting account to another computer and vice versa. FTP establishes a connection between a server and a client (your local computer). To make your website files accessible to the public, you use an FTP client to upload them to your Hosting account on the server. You can also download files from your Hosting account to your local computer.
The original FTP protocol does not encrypt data sent between the server and the client. It is strongly recommended you use an encrypted connection to transfer files whenever possible. SFTP (Secure Shell File Transfer Protocol) and FTPS (FTP over SSL) is available for hosting accounts.
4. Site Backup.
Never assume that hosting servers are 100% reliable and secure. Remember that servers are Big Computers from where everyone can read or write. Make sure that your hosting plan provides backup option for web files and databases in case any mishap happen. If not provided by host then figure out ways in which you can manually backup your files.
Nothing is more important than having a 24×7 operating web host. You need a web host is operating on a powerful server and stable network connections. 99.5% and above is the recommended uptime score; anything below 99% is unacceptable.
Alternatively, you can simply track your web host with server monitor tools – many of these tools are free on trial and are very to use.
